Wehnwood UMC Music Camp

3rd week of June 2013, 2 weeks after moving from Pasadena CA to Altoona PA, BJ drags me to the Wehnwood church to demonstrate accordions during their annual music camp. My instrument had been in a closet since around 1980 and a strap just broke during the demonstration.

That was quite an entrance. Anyway we still managed to show what we had.

Nothing happens in 2014. Who wants an accordion in a string ensemble or in a band ?

Comes 2015 and we are both registered, one with the strings, the other with the band.

Same in 2016, one with the strings, the other with the band.

In 2017, we reverse roles, one with the band and the other with the strings.

And same again in 2018, one with the band and the other with the strings.

Kids, if you look for a challenge and if you are not afraid to learn 6 to 8 pages of music in less than 10 hours over 5 evenings that week, surrounded by 2 directors and over 100 musicians, please come along. No cost, other than showing up and giving it all you have from your music gifts and skills.

The reward is awesome. As bad as it sounds on day 1, it has a wonderful outcome on day 6 when we all perform together in the Altoona High School auditorium.

No wonder it's called
